The Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny has an­nounced the ac­qui­si­tion of Trinidad Re­gion On­shore Com­pres­sor (TROC) from bp Trinidad and To­ba­go (bpTT).

In a re­lease on Wednes­day, NGC chair­man Ger­ald Ramdeen said, “This ac­qui­si­tion rep­re­sents a most sig­nif­i­cant achieve­ment for The Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go Lim­it­ed (NGC) and for Trinidad and To­ba­go’s en­er­gy sec­tor. The ac­qui­si­tion of TROC rep­re­sents NGC’s new, bold and strate­gic vi­sion to pro­mote and guar­an­tee en­er­gy se­cu­ri­ty that will as­sure the best in­ter­ests of NGC, our coun­try and the in­vest­ments made on be­half of our peo­ple.”

The re­lease stat­ed TROC is a crit­i­cal com­po­nent of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s gas in­fra­struc­ture as it is used in main­tain­ing line pres­sure, and op­ti­mis­ing gas flow from up­stream gas pro­duc­ers to down­stream cus­tomers via NGC’s 56” Cross Is­land Pipeline (CIP), which spans the coun­try from Guayagua­yare to At­lantic’s LNG fa­cil­i­ty in Point Fortin.

NGC said this as­set will al­low the com­pa­ny to lever­age its proven ca­pa­bil­i­ty to en­hance net­work per­for­mance.

The re­lease said TROC will al­low NGC to “Un­lock in­cre­men­tal vol­umes from ma­ture fields:

• By main­tain­ing op­ti­mal com­pres­sion, TROC will help sus­tain and po­ten­tial­ly in­crease pro­duc­tion from ma­ture gas fields, ex­tend­ing their eco­nom­ic life and max­imis­ing re­source re­cov­ery to the do­mes­tic and LNG mar­kets;

• Im­prove Sys­tem Re­li­a­bil­i­ty, en­sure con­sis­tent de­liv­ery of nat­ur­al gas to down­stream cus­tomers by main­tain­ing con­tin­u­ous flow through NGC’s Trinidad Gen­er­a­tion Un­lim­it­ed Al­ter­na­tive Gas Sup­ply Sta­tion (TAGSS), there­by se­cur­ing con­nec­tiv­i­ty be­tween the do­mes­tic net­work and the Cross Is­land Pipeline.”

Ad­di­tion­al­ly, the re­lease said, TROC would en­hance op­er­a­tional con­trol through the pro­vi­sion of greater flex­i­bil­i­ty in man­ag­ing pipeline pres­sures and op­ti­mis­ing through­put and en­able fu­ture growth through the fa­cil­i­ta­tion and in­te­gra­tion of up­com­ing projects and sup­port of long-term sus­tain­abil­i­ty goals.
