A one-year-old ba­by is in sta­ble con­di­tion af­ter he was hit by a stray bul­let in his El So­cor­ro home on Mon­day night.

Po­lice said the child's fa­ther was in the yard su­per­vis­ing his two oth­er chil­dren who were play­ing around 9:50 pm, while the moth­er was in the kitchen.

Both par­ents heard sev­er­al gun­shots and on check­ing saw the ba­by bleed­ing and cry­ing.

The par­ents called to a neigh­bour for help who then called an am­bu­lance which took the child to hos­pi­tal.

Sources said the child was shot in the thigh which ex­it­ed through the but­tocks.

The ba­by was treat­ed and is in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Po­lice from the Barataria CID vis­it­ed the scene and learned that a gun­man was seen fir­ing shots be­fore run­ning through a track in the neigh­bour­hood.

Four spent shells were found at the scene.
