Businesswoman Helen Bhagwansingh and her family have condemned the spread of a fake news item yesterday, that alleged that she had tested positive for the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

The report was circulated by someone unknown, who used the words "CNC3 Breaking News" with the hope that the allegation would appear credible.

The fake news item was not a product of CNC3 nor of any other branch of Guardian Media.

The Bhagwansingh family confirmed to CNC3 that she has not travelled recently and has not tested positive for COVID-19.

In a media release later on, the company condemed the fake report as “hurtful”.

"Helen Bhagwansingh has not left the country since March, 2020, which was at the beginning of the pandemic. We assure everyone that she is in good health she goes to work, and like some of us work from home as she continues to steer the Bhagwansingh’s Group of Companies. The Bhagwansingh’s Group of Companies urges all citizens to verify facts before circulating untruths and damaging the credibility of persons and companies," the statement said.
