Police are investigating a situation where a prison officer assaulted a policeman and broken the windows of the Malabar Police Station on Wednesday night.
Police said officers were on duty at the police station at around 11.45 pm when they noticed the man wearing a pair of grey boxers banging on the door of the station.
The officers on checking then saw the man kneeling on the ground and asked the officers to “arrest him,” as he held his hands behind his back.
As one of the officers approached him and tried to speak with him, the man attacked him, grabbing onto the policeman.
The officer was able to break free, as the man picked up two big stones nearby and broke a window on the front of the police station and a second window behind the station.
Officers eventually subdued the man and arrested him.
The injured officer and the suspect were both taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where they were treated and discharged.
Investigators said the suspect is a prison officer attached to the Ankle Monitoring Unit.
He was expected to be taken to court on Friday morning to answer charges of malicious damage to government property, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Police said they had no explanation for the man’s erratic behaviour.
