Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says Caricom nations are maintaining their stance of non-interference in the Venezuelan crisis.
Despite that position, Rowley said Caricom has agreed to send a convoy to speak with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo next week on the deepening Venezuelan crisis. Rowley is expected to leave the country with the diplomatic group for Washington on Carnival Tuesday.
"We took the position that Caricom is backing no horse in that very difficult race," Rowley said after returning from the 30th Caricom meeting in St Kitts and Nevis.
Rowley summarised the crisis in Venezuela, including the sanctions imposed by the United States and said the position of the US was "belligerent."
"We know that for the last four years Venezuela has had come very significant internal difficulties, political economic and diplomatic," he said.
But Rowley said Caricom and T&T took the position that Venezuela was facing a political issue and it was up to the people of that country to work it out.
"It is not for us in T&T to impose upon Venezuela a regime change," he said.
Rowley is expected to speak with the media again on Sunday and hinted that he may have more news then.
