Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 45-year-old man of San Juan.
The death is believed to have stemmed from a domestic violence incident.
According to police, a woman called officers just after 4pm Thursday and reported that her husband started to abuse her and began to choke her.
She said her three children came to her assistance and she ran outside.
She told officers when she returned she saw her husband motionless on the bed.
Police are trying to determine exactly how the man died.
Man killed during fracas
A 39-year-old of Las Lomas was struck and killed during a fracas involving a group of men.
The victim was identified by police as Vishal Rajkumarsingh of Las Lomas #1 Via Chin Chin Road, Cunupia. Rajkumarsingh was a security officer employed with Allied Security.
According to a police report, at about 1.30 pm Thursday Rajkumarsingh was in the company of four other men including a maxi taxi driver when they blocked Savary Road, Las Lomas #1 with the maxi taxi preventing a 27-year-old man of Ramsaran Trace, Carapichaima from driving his truck.
Police said three of the men were armed with bottles, stones, a cutlass and a gulf club began throwing the stones and bottles at the truck the 27-year-old was in.
The 27-year-old man also received a laceration to the right side of the face below the right eye. He attempted to flee and drove his truck forward hitting the maxi and escaping.
Shortly after Rajkumarsingh was seen lying motionless on the roadway.
Investigations are continuing.
Police warn of rising gang violence
A 34-year-old man was shot and wounded while walking in the Belmont area on Thursday.
Police said around 5.30 pm the victim of Belmont was walking along Argyle Street, when a vehicle approached him and its occupants opened fire on him. The car then sped off.
The victim subsequently felt a burning sensation to the left thigh and scrotum.
He was then taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
Police have warned residents and commuters travelling in and out of East Port-of-Spain and the Belmont to exercise caution as there seems to be an upsurge in gang-related shootings in the area.
Police also assured that mobile patrols will be increased in a bid to quell the upsurge in gang-related activities.
Woman raped, beaten
A 21-year-old woman was beaten and sexually assaulted by her common-law husband in Valencia on Thursday night.
Police said just before 9 pm the victim was at her home with the man, aged 31 when he accused her of being
unfaithful and started beating her about her body.
He then sexually assaulted her.
Neighbours who heard her screams contacted the police Valencia police.
