Less than 23 hours after Tobago recorded its 11th murder, police were called to a double murder just after 1 am at Milford Road, Crown Point.

Tobago's murder toll now stands at a record high of 13 for 2023.

Police told Guardian Media that gunmen sprayed bullets into a group gathering at Chill Out Bar, hitting three men. Two of them were killed.

So far one of the deceased has been identified as Akeem Freitas. The third victim was taken to Scarborough General Hospital for emergency medical attention for gunshot wounds.

A police source said Freitas, from Rockley Vale, is a member of the Sixx gang in Tobago and is known to the police for several illegal firearm-related offences.

Officers believe the second victim, a man in his 50s, may have been at the wrong place at the wrong time. A District Medical Officer (DMO) visited the scene just after 3 am and ordered the bodies to be removed to Scarborough Mortuary.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
