One man was killed and an­oth­er in­jured dur­ing a dead­ly am­bush in Barataria this morn­ing.

The vic­tim, whose iden­ti­ty is yet to be con­firmed, died be­hind the steer­ing wheel.

A sec­ond man was seen limp­ing away from the scene, bleed­ing from gun­shot wounds to his low­er left leg.

Re­ports in­di­cate the de­ceased had stopped at the cor­ner of Third Av­enue and Sec­ond Street around 8 a.m. when a car car­ry­ing armed men pulled up and opened fire on the idling ve­hi­cle.

The vic­tim re­port­ed­ly drove off but crashed in­to a lamp-post a few feet away.

The gun­men then walked up to the car and con­tin­ued shoot­ing through the wind­screen be­fore re­turn­ing to their ve­hi­cle and dri­ving off.

The in­ci­dent left mo­torists and par­ents on their way to drop off their chil­dren at school in shock.
