Mentally ill man shot by police after Coryal scuffle

A men­tal­ly ill man was shot and killed by po­lice af­ter he fought with of­fi­cers who vis­it­ed his Coryal home on Fri­day night. Po­lice said of­fi­cers were called to the house at the 12 1/2 mm Coryal Main Road at around 8:08 pm by a rel­a­tive who re­port­ed that Forstin Au­gus­tus was be­hav­ing vi­o­lent­ly.

The rel­a­tive guid­ed the of­fi­cers to a room at the side of the house where they in­ter­viewed Au­gus­tus for a short while be­fore he re­port­ed­ly be­gan to act vi­o­lent­ly again. Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice re­port Au­gus­tus, charged up to one of the of­fi­cers and be­gan fight­ing with him.

Dur­ing the strug­gle the of­fi­cer no­ticed the wood­en han­dle of a cut­lass in Au­gus­tus’ pants waist. As Au­gus­tus tried to reach for the cut­lass he was shot in the chest. Au­gus­tus walked to a room at the side of the house where he died. A dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer vis­it­ed the scene who de­clared Au­gus­tus dead.
