Murder in Black Rock

To­ba­go po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mur­der of Omari Matthews 21, of Mt. Hay Trace, Black Rock.

At around 1.30 am yes­ter­day, Matthews was at Cour­land Bush Trace, Black Rock, along the road­way when an ar­gu­ment erupt­ed with two men he knew. The men got in­to a grey Toy­ota Aqua, but when Matthews ap­proached the ve­hi­cle, three loud ex­plo­sions were heard. He was shot in the neck and fell to the ground.

The ve­hi­cle with the three as­sailants then sped off.

Matthews was tak­en to the Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal but died while un­der­go­ing emer­gency treat­ment.

Two male sus­pects from Ply­mouth have been de­tained and are as­sist­ing po­lice with their in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

To­ba­go Homi­cide Bu­reau is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

Cou­va labour­er chopped in dis­pute

A Cou­va labour­er was hos­pi­talised on Fri­day af­ter be­ing chopped.

Around 6 pm on Fri­day, Cur­tis Gar­cia, 53, of Mc Bean Vil­lage, was with friends at Din­di­al Stock­yard when he was ap­proached by the sus­pect who was armed with a cut­lass.

Eye­wit­ness­es said an ar­gu­ment en­sued be­tween the two over monies Gar­cia re­port­ed­ly owed the sus­pect. The sus­pect be­gan chop­ping Gar­cia about the body.

The bleed­ing man was tak­en to the Cou­va Health Fa­cil­i­ty where he was treat­ed be­fore be­ing trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. He was ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion up to late yes­ter­day.

Po­lice are search­ing for the sus­pect

Body in car park still uniden­ti­fied

The de­com­pos­ing body of a woman found in a car park in Port-of-Spain on Fri­day is yet to be iden­ti­fied.

Around 11.50 am, an anony­mous caller told po­lice a body had been seen on the ground at a pri­vate car park on Hen­ry Street. Of­fi­cers went to the lo­ca­tion and were forced to break the lock on the gate to gain ac­cess to the car park.

Of­fi­cers said there were no marks of vi­o­lence on the body which was of a woman of African de­scent. The de­ceased had a ras­ta hair­style, was around five feet, ten inch­es tall and was clutch­ing a bot­tle of Hard Wine.

Woman shot dead in Laven­tille

La Toya Hugh­es, 31, was shot as she was about to en­ter her car which was parked on Trou Macauque Road, Laven­tille, near Hitler Trace.

Eye­wit­ness­es re­port­ed see­ing an un­known ve­hi­cle stop be­fore the oc­cu­pants opened fire on Hugh­es. The in­jured woman ran a short dis­tance away in­to a com­pound for help and col­lapsed.

Of­fi­cers from the In­ter-Agency Task Force who re­spond­ed to the call for as­sis­tance found Hugh­es un­re­spon­sive. She was lat­er pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Hugh­es had been shot sev­er­al times in the low­er ex­trem­i­ties.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
