A Span­ish-speak­ing man iden­ti­fied as Ed­imir Gon­za­les was killed by an off-du­ty po­lice of­fi­cer on In­de­pen­dence Day af­ter at­tack­ing a prison of­fi­cer.

Po­lice re­port­ed that the prison of­fi­cer was at the cor­ner of Mer­cline Dri­ve and Long­denville Old Road around 2.30 am when Gon­za­les struck him.

The 25-year-old hit the of­fi­cer in the head be­fore grab­bing a knife and charg­ing at him.

An off-du­ty po­lice of­fi­cer near­by drew his Sig Sauer pis­tol and shot Gon­za­les, who died at the scene.

Of­fi­cers from the Long­denville Po­lice Post are con­tin­u­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
