A 67-year-old Laventille pensioner was murdered during a home invasion yesterday morning.
According to reports, around 3.30 am residents of Block 22, Trou Macaque, heard a volley of gunshots in the community.
As gunshots are a frequent feature of the community at nights, residents did not bother to call police or check outside for any potential victims until the following morning.
Around 6.30 am, however, a resident went to check on Kenneth “Blues” Audain and found the door to his apartment open. When the resident went inside he found Audain’s body.
Police said crime scene investigators found several 5.56 calibre shells, which is used in assault rifles, in the apartment.
Investigators believe it may have been a robbery as Audain’s apartment was ransacked.
An autopsy will be performed on Audain’s body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James this morning.
Audain’s murder raised the murder toll for the year to 417.
Detectives of the Region One Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations.
