A 67-year-old Laven­tille pen­sion­er was mur­dered dur­ing a home in­va­sion yes­ter­day morn­ing.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, around 3.30 am res­i­dents of Block 22, Trou Macaque, heard a vol­ley of gun­shots in the com­mu­ni­ty.

As gun­shots are a fre­quent fea­ture of the com­mu­ni­ty at nights, res­i­dents did not both­er to call po­lice or check out­side for any po­ten­tial vic­tims un­til the fol­low­ing morn­ing.

Around 6.30 am, how­ev­er, a res­i­dent went to check on Ken­neth “Blues” Au­dain and found the door to his apart­ment open. When the res­i­dent went in­side he found Au­dain’s body.

Po­lice said crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors found sev­er­al 5.56 cal­i­bre shells, which is used in as­sault ri­fles, in the apart­ment.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors be­lieve it may have been a rob­bery as Au­dain’s apart­ment was ran­sacked.

An au­top­sy will be per­formed on Au­dain’s body at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre in St James this morn­ing.

Au­dain’s mur­der raised the mur­der toll for the year to 417.

De­tec­tives of the Re­gion One Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
