Lo­cal gospel ra­dio pi­o­neer and pen­te­costal rev­erend Mar­garet El­cock has died.

De­tails are still sketchy but Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that a pas­tor de­liv­ered news of her pass­ing to mem­bers of his in­ter­ces­so­ry group Sun­day evening, ask­ing that prayers be lift­ed up on be­half of her pass­ing.

A post lat­er Sun­day by gospel ra­dio sta­tion 98.1 FM The Promise con­firmed El­cock had died and paid trib­ute to her. A pho­to­graph post­ed with the mes­sage fea­tured El­cock and an­oth­er sta­tion per­son­al­i­ty Jamie Thomas, who died ear­li­er this year.

The post read: “In one year .. we have lost so much and heav­en gained lead­ers that im­pact­ed gen­er­a­tions for the King­dom. RIP Dr Mar­garet El­cock and JT.”

El­cock found­ed the Fam­i­ly Fo­cus Broad­cast­ing Net­work (FBN), which launched I.S.A.A.C 98.1FM, the first Chris­t­ian ra­dio sta­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

El­cock, the wife of re­tired Jus­tice Lloyd El­cock, was a broad­cast­er by pro­fes­sion for over 20 years and held the dis­tinc­tion of be­ing the first woman to found and pre­side over a na­tion­al ra­dio sta­tion. She re­ceived the Hum­ming­bird Medal Sil­ver in 2010 for her con­tri­bu­tion to the lo­cal broad­cast in­dus­try.

In 1988, her ca­reer took an in­ter­est­ing turn due to her new­found faith in Je­sus Christ. From then on­wards, her life and pro­fes­sion were dras­ti­cal­ly trans­formed and she broad­cast­ed for “God and God alone.” FBN was birthed as a re­sult of this change.

El­cock used ra­dio pro­gram­ming, tele­vi­sion pro­duc­tions and writ­ten pub­li­ca­tions to in­flu­ence her lis­ten­ers and view­ers. Her mes­sages en­cour­aged fam­i­ly mem­bers to build a nur­tur­ing en­vi­ron­ment for healthy self-es­teem that makes each per­son feel im­por­tant.

El­cock leaves to mourn her hus­band, five chil­dren and one grand­child.
