Local gospel radio pioneer and pentecostal reverend Margaret Elcock has died.

Details are still sketchy but Guardian Media understands that a pastor delivered news of her passing to members of his intercessory group Sunday evening, asking that prayers be lifted up on behalf of her passing.

A post later Sunday by gospel radio station 98.1 FM The Promise confirmed Elcock had died and paid tribute to her. A photograph posted with the message featured Elcock and another station personality Jamie Thomas, who died earlier this year.

The post read: “In one year .. we have lost so much and heaven gained leaders that impacted generations for the Kingdom. RIP Dr Margaret Elcock and JT.”

Elcock founded the Family Focus Broadcasting Network (FBN), which launched I.S.A.A.C 98.1FM, the first Christian radio station in Trinidad and Tobago.

Elcock, the wife of retired Justice Lloyd Elcock, was a broadcaster by profession for over 20 years and held the distinction of being the first woman to found and preside over a national radio station. She received the Hummingbird Medal Silver in 2010 for her contribution to the local broadcast industry.

In 1988, her career took an interesting turn due to her newfound faith in Jesus Christ. From then onwards, her life and profession were drastically transformed and she broadcasted for “God and God alone.” FBN was birthed as a result of this change.

Elcock used radio programming, television productions and written publications to influence her listeners and viewers. Her messages encouraged family members to build a nurturing environment for healthy self-esteem that makes each person feel important.

Elcock leaves to mourn her husband, five children and one grandchild.
