Police are investigating an incident in which a toddler was allegedly injured while at a daycare in Central Trinidad.

The child's mother reportedly told police that she picked up the toddler at the daycare in Couva late Monday and discovered that the baby had swollen marks on the buttocks, arms and legs, which appeared as though the child was beaten.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Wayne Mystar, in a statement yesterday, assured that officers from the Child Protection Unit, along with Child Welfare Authorities, were looking into the matter.

Due to the sensitive nature of the matter and the age of the child, he said, specific details could not be disclosed to protect the privacy and well-being of those affected.

"The TTPS assures the public that the welfare of the child is our highest priority. We are working closely with medical personnel, childcare professionals, and the child’s family to ensure the child receives the necessary care and support," he said.

The ACP promised further updates as the investigation progresses.
