Police rescue prohibited animals, seize marijuana

De­tec­tives of the Pe­nal Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) res­cued a num­ber of pro­hib­it­ed an­i­mals and seized a quan­ti­ty of nar­cotics dur­ing an in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cise yes­ter­day.

Act­ing on in­for­ma­tion that pro­hib­it­ed an­i­mals were be­ing caged in a forest­ed area, Sgt Haynes of the Pe­nal CID led an op­er­a­tion in­to Grants Trace, Quar­ry Road, Morne Di­a­blo, where the of­fi­cers found two wood­en cages, one con­tain­ing three adult tou­can birds, three ba­by tou­can birds and two ca­puchin mon­keys.

Af­ter sur­vey­ing the area, the of­fi­cers al­so found a black plas­tic bag which con­tained 38 grammes of mar­i­jua­na.

The res­cued an­i­mals were hand­ed over to the Game War­dens De­part­ment and the nar­cotics de­stroyed.

The op­er­a­tion al­so in­clud­ed Sgt (Ag) Bred­dy, Cpl George and of­fi­cers from the Pe­nal CID, South-West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and Ca­nine Unit.

Sgt Haynes is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
