The son of deceased journalist Marcia Henville was shot and killed yesterday in one of two shootings that took place hours apart along the East-West corridor.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Isaiah Chioke Cadet from Mandevilla Avenue, Penco Gardens, Chaguanas.

Investigators told Guardian Media that shortly after 3 pm they received a call about loud explosions being heard along Mehelal Street in Aranguez.

When police arrived on the scene they found two men in the front seat of a Toyota motorcar with gunshot wounds. Cadet it appeared had already succumbed to his injuries, while another man, yet to be identified was taken to the Eric Williams Sciences Complex to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

A team of homicide officers and officers of the North Eastern Division under Senior Supt Phillip and Supt Alexander scoured the area for clues in the shooting. Investigators on the scene told Guardian Media they had no clear motive for the killing at this time.

Cadet’s mother, Marcia Henville a well-known journalist and television personality was killed at her Fidelis Height home in St Augustine on January 23, 2015. An autopsy revealed then that she had been stabbed, beaten and her throat slit.

Her husband, Sheldon Henville was later charged with her murder.

He was committed to stand trial, and the matter is expected to begin shortly before the Port-of-Spain High Court.

Sheldon Henville was treated for four weeks for burns suffered the day of his wife’s death, and after he recovered, he was charged.

Many residents described the area as “usually quiet” and expressed shock over the killing.

Police could not say whether this killing had been related to a double shooting that occurred earlier that day close to noon at Temple Street in Mount Lambert. In that incident residents contacted police after hearing a barrage of gunfire.

When police arrived on the scene two men were found with gunshot wounds and later taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where they were treated and warded in serious but stable conditions.

The gunmen, police were informed, made their getaway in a silver Nissan Wingroad following this shooting.

Cadet’s killing took the country’s murder count to 194. For the same period last year, the figure was 215.
