Stu­art Young can now add an­oth­er ti­tle to his name, Se­nior Coun­sel. 

In a state­ment to Guardian Me­dia, Young said, “I am grate­ful and priv­i­leged to have been giv­en the op­por­tu­ni­ty to serve my coun­try and to use my pro­fes­sion­al skills to do so. I am hum­bled to be con­ferred with se­nior coun­sel sta­tus and as­sure the pop­u­la­tion that I will con­tin­ue to up­hold the val­ues as­so­ci­at­ed with in­ner bar prac­ti­tion­ers ie hard work, hon­esty, in­tegri­ty and knowl­edge of the law.”

Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley slipped in the an­nounce­ment as he wrapped de­bate on the Whistle­blow­er leg­is­la­tion Fri­day night. 

Dr Row­ley was at the time chastis­ing the Op­po­si­tion for not sup­port­ing the bill. While mak­ing the point he's of­ten made that the Gov­ern­ment fought to re­trieve bil­lions of dol­lars from Brazil­ian firm OAS Con­stru­to­ra re­lat­ed to the con­struc­tion of the San Fer­nan­do to Point Fortin High­way, he said, "Once again I want to con­grat­u­late and thank Se­nior Coun­sel Stu­art Young for the work he has done."

The state­ment at­tract­ed thumps on the desk by the Gov­ern­ment side but jeers from the op­po­si­tion.

Cou­va South MP Rudranath In­dars­ingh, heard in the cross talk asked, "You give him Se­nior Coun­sel?"

"No! I don't give..." Dr Row­ley be­gan be­fore be­ing stopped by House Speak Bridgid An­nisette George who ad­mon­ished the Op­po­si­tion on the cross talk. 

Young was an at­tor­ney be­fore en­ter­ing ac­tive pol­i­tics where he has been Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter, Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the At­tor­ney Gen­er­al and Le­gal Af­fairs, Min­is­ter of Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty. He now serves as Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries as well as Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter.
