A 16-year-old boy is in sta­ble con­di­tion af­ter be­ing shot in east Port-of-Spain ear­ly Mon­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the teen and his 18-year-old friend were walk­ing on the Cres­cent, off Quar­ry Street in East Dry Riv­er, at 2.20 am when they heard gun­shots. The younger boy was hit in the right hand and left el­bow. His friend ran off and was not hurt.

Res­i­dents who heard the gun­fire took the in­jured boy to hos­pi­tal, where he was treat­ed.

In an un­re­lat­ed in­ci­dent on Sun­day night, po­lice ar­rest­ed a man from Gon­za­les af­ter he was found with 10 rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion. Of­fi­cers said he was al­so want­ed for ques­tion­ing in con­nec­tion with a rob­bery.

Dur­ing a sep­a­rate search along Ser­raneau Road in Bel­mont, po­lice found 20 rounds of 9 mm am­mu­ni­tion and four 12-gauge shot­gun car­tridges. No one was held.

Po­lice said the Bel­mont search­es formed part of on­go­ing crime sup­pres­sion ex­er­cis­es in the wake of last Sun­day's triple mur­der of Michael Ross, Davy Le Maitre and Josi­ah Mal­oney.
