A 16-year-old boy is in stable condition after being shot in east Port-of-Spain early Monday morning.
Police said the teen and his 18-year-old friend were walking on the Crescent, off Quarry Street in East Dry River, at 2.20 am when they heard gunshots. The younger boy was hit in the right hand and left elbow. His friend ran off and was not hurt.
Residents who heard the gunfire took the injured boy to hospital, where he was treated.
In an unrelated incident on Sunday night, police arrested a man from Gonzales after he was found with 10 rounds of 5.56 ammunition. Officers said he was also wanted for questioning in connection with a robbery.
During a separate search along Serraneau Road in Belmont, police found 20 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and four 12-gauge shotgun cartridges. No one was held.
Police said the Belmont searches formed part of ongoing crime suppression exercises in the wake of last Sunday's triple murder of Michael Ross, Davy Le Maitre and Josiah Maloney.
