Central Division police are investigating three separate robberies that took place within a three-hour period on Sunday morning in Chaguanas and Cunupia.
In the first incident, a 28-year-old taxi driver was plying his white Nissan Wingroad for hire at the Felicity Taxi Stand around 4:15 a.m. when he was approached by a man who asked to be taken to Joyce Road, Chaguanas.
The driver agreed and drove the man to the location. However, upon arrival, the passenger sprayed the driver with an unknown liquid.
The driver felt a burning sensation in both eyes and was ordered out of the vehicle by the bandit, who then drove off in the car.
In the second incident, a 65-year-old woman was walking to the garage at the side of her Cacandee Road, Felicity home around 5:00 a.m. when she was confronted by five men, one of whom was armed with a gun.
The bandits forced the woman back into the bedroom of her home, where a 51-year-old relative was relaxing. They tied up both victims.
One of the intruders then threw gasoline on the man and threatened him, while the others ransacked the house, stealing $95,000, two cellphones, and jewellery before escaping in a white Nissan AD Wagon.
Two hours later, around 7:00 a.m., a 64-year-old man arrived at his Monroe Road workplace when he was confronted by four masked gunmen who tied him up and beat him.
The bandits then ordered the man to call his boss.
The 47-year-old businessman, who also lives at the premises, responded to the call but was ambushed and beaten by the bandits.
The businessman’s relatives—including three children aged 16, 15, 13, and 10—were tied up and locked in a room of the house, while the bandits stole $220,000, US$8,000, jewellery, laptops, cellphones, and a green Kia Sportage before escaping.
Police were called in and later found the stolen cellphones on Camden Road, Couva.
