As 21 new positive COVID-19 cases were recorded by the Ministry of Health yesterday, officials of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) have announced that two employees attached to its Northern Area were diagnosed with the virus on March 29 and April 2 respectively.

In a release yesterday, T&TEC said all protocols and contact tracing measures were immediately employed and the affected employees who were part of the contact tracing process were asked to self-isolate while a thorough sanitisation of the workspaces was done.

T&TEC officials also met with members of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) on Tuesday to apprise them of the situation, following which the union made certain recommendations that are now receiving management’s attention.

In an unrelated incident, the T&T Police Service’s Finance Branch, which is located at the Police Administration Building on Sackville Street, Port-of-Spain, also had to be shut down after a member of staff tested positive for the disease.

While the offices were sanitised on April 6, a decision was also taken to close the Branch. The public is thus being advised that no transactions will take place at the branch until next week. The branch will remain closed until April 12.
