The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has warned that “firm and decisive action” will be taken against anyone who breaches newly proclaimed fireworks legislation now in force.
In a media release issued today, the TTPS confirmed the proclamation of the Summary Offences (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025 and the Summary Offences (Fireworks) Regulations 2025, Legal Notice 466, and advised the public that the legislation is operational.
“The rules have changed—our responsibility must change too,” the TTPS said as it urged citizens to refrain from the improper, unlawful or unsafe use of fireworks.
Police said the irresponsible discharge of fireworks endangers lives and property, creates public alarm, and disrupts communities, particularly affecting children, senior citizens, vulnerable persons and animals, including household pets.
The TTPS cautioned that while officers may issue warnings where appropriate, “the issuance of a warning does not preclude prosecution.”
According to the release, officers will maintain “heightened, intelligence-led and targeted patrols to ensure public safety and compliance with the law”.
The release also stressed that all offences detected or reported will be investigated and may lead to prosecution.
The TTPS thanked the public for its cooperation and encouraged full compliance, noting that “collective responsibility and adherence to safety regulations remain critical to ensuring a safer and more secure Trinidad and Tobago.”
