UWI Law Dean hospitalised after crash

Dean of the Law Fac­ul­ty of the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI) and pres­i­dent of the Fam­i­ly Plan­ning As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T (FPATT), Pro­fes­sor Rose-Marie Belle An­toine has been hos­pi­talised af­ter a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent on Thurs­day. 

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands An­toine was head­ing in­to Port-of-Spain on Old Year’s day when her ve­hi­cle was hit from be­hind by a truck. Guardian Me­dia al­so un­der­stands she suf­fered in­juries to her head and back but is con­scious and is not fight­ing for her life de­spite ru­mours. She is re­ceiv­ing treat­ment at the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. 

In a state­ment to Guardian Me­dia, UWI St Au­gus­tine Cam­pus Prin­ci­pal, Pro­fes­sor Bri­an Copeland said the cam­pus is sad­dened to hear about the in­ci­dent. 

“We con­tin­ue to mon­i­tor her con­di­tion as she un­der­goes med­ical treat­ment. Our thoughts are with Pro­fes­sor An­toine as we hope and pray for a com­plete re­cov­ery,” he said.

An­toine has been an out­spo­ken fig­ure when it comes to some of the con­tro­ver­sial and top­i­cal is­sues fac­ing this coun­try and the re­gion.
