Anthony Allum, Coen Mack and Rahim Mohammed all walked away with titles when SquashTT held its ‘November to Remember’ Junior Graded Squash Tournament at the Racquet Centre of the Queen’s Park Oval last week.

Allum played unbeaten in a four-man round-robin Group A play-off over the past four days. On the opening, day last Thursday, he brushed aside Marcus Camps Campin in straight sets 11-4, 11-1, 11-5, and a day later he disposed of Ross D’ Juran 11-2, 11-8 and 11-7.

It was D’Juran’s first loss of the play-off, having also beaten Camps Campin 11-6, 11-6, 11-2 on Thursday. Allum later sealed the title by sealing a 3-0 (11-5, 11-7 and 11-4) victory over Sanjiv Mungal. The latter secured the runner-up spot in the group with the loss against Allum which was his only defeat.

He finished with wins over Camps Campin 11-3, 11-3 and 11-9, and D’Juran in straight sets 11-4, 11-2 and 11-8.

Meanwhile, Mack also prevailed over a group of seven players for the crown, beating both Saanvi Chattergoon and Evan Ghuran by identical 3-0 margins—11-5, 11-7, 11-6, and 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 respectively on the first day of competition.

With Vithala Chattergoon triumphant in double matches also, Mack still stopped him in a close contest when the two met Friday 3-2 (9-11, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7) to signal a crossing of his most difficult hurdle in the playoffs.

He then completed his play Friday with a 3-1 (11-8, 11-8, 13-11, and 11-8) victory over Nixon Callender before wrapping up an unbeaten streak on the final day, where he prevailed at the expense of Olivia Allum 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-3) in his penultimate match of the tournament, and then Gia Ghuran 3-2 (10-12, 13-11, 6-11, 11-8 and 12-10).

Mohammed on the other hand emerged the winner from a 16-player knock-out draw among novice players. Sharper than his opponents, Mohammed easily cruised to the quarterfinal where he defeated Luc Moses 11-2, 11-2 which took him into the semifinals.

Jess D’Juran also made it to the semis after his 2-0 clobbering of Matthias Wright 12-10, 11-7, but the two (Mohammed and D’Juran) earned berths into the final with respective victories over Javed Ishmael (11-5, 11-4) and Sevastian Hosein (11-7, 11-6).

The title was expectedly a close affair with Mohammed taking the early advantage 11-6. However, D’Juran stormed back to level the match at one apiece by holding off his counterpart 11-9 in the second set.

Mohammed prevailed in the end 11-4 to take the Group C title.

Meanwhile, Liam Messiah got the better of Ameer Amid for the Consolation Plate C final 11-8 and 13-11.
