The trio of Triston Jaichan, Jadian Neaves and Alexi Ramirez won double crowns at the weekend (June 28-29) when the T&T Cycling Federation held its National Time Trial and Road Race Championships at the In-teck Park in Tamana.
Jaichan, who represented the Perfection Services Limited (PSL) cycling club, claimed the junior male time trial title in a three-man field that was required to travel a distance of 25.2 kilometres, which is the equivalent of 14 laps of the circuit.
He returned home 43.15 minutes after leaving the starting point with hands lifted in acknowledgement of his winning performance, with Marcus Lockett of the Madonna Wheelers in second and Jaden Alexander in third.
Jaichan then doubled up as junior male champion by beating Sequan Samaroo with a time of 4:32.41.00. The race was a 155.17-kilometre grind, and Lockett followed Samaroo for the bronze medal.
Neaves, a double-bronze medallist at last year’s Pan Am Championships, clinched his first crown at the weekend- the time trial for his club Raiders Cycle & Multi-Sport in a time of 54.47, which carried riders a testing 20 laps of a 36-kilometre course.
Dave Cooper, who represented the Titans Cycle & Multi-Sport, stormed home for the runner-up spot while Josiah Williams' 1:01.00 time proved to be good enough for the third-place finish.
The trio renewed their rivalry in the road race that followed, but there was no change to the order of their finish and the resulting accolades and prizes that followed, with Neaves taking the top spot, and Cooper and Williams completing the top three finishers, respectively.
Ramirez, on the other hand, disposed of a challenging field that comprised Kerri Montano and Ashley Thomas. However, Ramirez flexed her muscles to claim the victory in the 14-lap race for Team BSR - USA.
In the Road Race, she rode all alone for her second title of the weekend.
