Five Rivers Secondary have everything to play for Wednesday as they face Pleasantville Secondary in the Girls’ National Intercol final at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva, starting at 3 pm.
It will be a fight to the death between the two teams with the national title at stake. Pleasantville Secondary will be led by its instrumental striker, Nikita Gosine, and her sister, Natalia Gosine, this afternoon. Last year, they just missed out on the crown by losing to a dominant St Joseph Convent, Port-of-Spain, outfit, but having gained the perfect revenge in the semifinals last week, the Southerners are eager to make up for their loss last year.
Manager Jillian Huggins said her charges will deal with all that Five Rivers has to offer this afternoon.
“I personally have not seen them play, but I have confidence that my coaches, Brian London and Joel Maloney, have seen them and will come up with the right strategy to earn them the title this afternoon.
The Southerners who defeated St Joseph’s Convent Port-of-Spain 5-0 in their semifinal matchup are stacked with a number of high-profile players, such as the Gosine sisters (Nikita and Natalia), Zara Chase, and Kaeley Martin, among many others, while the Easterners will pin their hopes on Hackeema Goodridge and Jayda Herbert, among others, following their semifinal win against Signal Hill Secondary courtesy of a strike from Goodridge to emerge victorious 1-0 on Saturday.
Sylvester Sandiford, the Five Rivers manager, assured that once his players, such as Goodridge, Shaquilla Daniel, Mariah Matthews, and Ameeda Bowman, can click on the day, they will come away the victorious team.
Five Rivers has it all to play for with the Under-15 National final title on December 29, when they face Bishop’s High School in the sister isle of Tobago, the senior national Intercol final today, and the Big Five title.
On Monday, the Easterners clinched the Trinidad leg of the Under-15 crown by hammering St Joseph’s Convent, Port-of-Spain, 6-0 on the St Joseph’s Convent Ground. Four goals from Goodridge and two from the boot of Jayda Herbert did the trick for the easterners to advance to the final.
Following the girl’s contest will be a clash of the Boys’ National Intercol final between Naparima College and Signal Hill Secondary, a rematch of the Boys’ Premier Division final match, which Naparima won 2-1 to clinch the title 14 days ago.
Both teams earned final berths courtesy of contrasting journeys. Naparima, the 2025 South Zone Intercol winners and Premier Division champions, will go after a clean sweep of the titles at stake against the Tobagonians, who won the Tobago Intercol last week and will be looking for revenge in the most coveted title in schoolboy football.
The national Intercol final will kick off at 5 pm this afternoon at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva, in the second match of a doubleheader.
Former national senior men’s coach and player Angus Eve guided his lads to record a 1-0 win over St Augustine Secondary School from the penalty spot in a lopsided affair last week in the National zonal semi-final, while Signal Hill got the better of St Anthony’s College 1-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo on Saturday.
