T&T Soca Warriors striker Levi Garca of Russian club Spartak Moscow says he is ready to deliver in big games for T&T as this country prepares for the resumption of their 2026 Concacaf World Cup qualifiers.
The Soca Warriors, with four points from two matches, will host St Kitts & Nevis (three points) in their penultimate Group B match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain Friday (June 6) from 7.30 pm before travelling to face group leader Costa Rica (six points) on Tuesday (June 10).
A win for T&T will secure a top-two finish in the spot ahead of their final match and cement their spot in the next round of qualifiers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted jointly by USA, Canada and Mexico and speaking at a training session at the match venue yesterday a confident Garcia, 27, who last played for T&T on June 5 last year in the 2-2 draw with Grenada at the Mucurapo venue said he was ready to deliver for his team.
Garcia who last scored for T&T in a 2-0 Concacaf Nations League win over St Vincent and the Grenadines back in 2022, said: "I feel really good to be back with the bunch of guys and I'm confident."
He added, "It's a new set up and so far, things are going well and for me it's a pleasure to be here."
Asked about his first impression of head coach Dwight Yorke who took over the reins from former coach Angus Eve last November, Garcia replied, "For me, he is a legend of course and for me it's exciting and for the guys it's exciting, and I can only see the plan and the vision moving forward."
Pressed as to what those plans were, Garcia replied, "The plan and vision is to qualify for the World Cup (FIFA 2026 USA/Mexico/Canada), and of course, he (Yorke) has been implementing it in the first session I have been involved in here, and we can see the goal and the drive is to qualify for the World Cup."
Concerning any difference in coaching styles as compared to former coach Eve, Garcia explained, "I would not say there is a big difference, but of course, he (Yorke) brings a different level of professionalism, and I think the guys are mostly excited because of his high quality and the career that he had. So, based on what I have seen so far I can see a level step up."
Despite switching from AEK Athens in Greece to Spartak Moscow in Russia, Garcia said he expects to bring his same high-quality performance to the team.
A confident Garcia boasted, "I have always been myself and I have always tried to add whatever I can, and the experience I have gotten there (Russia) so far is probably the status of delivering in big games, so hopefully in this big game on Friday, once my body gives me the support I can do what I have to do."
With regards to making up for his year's absence from the team, Garcia was quick to point out that, it's 11 guys on the pitch to represent the team.
Garcia also expressed his confidence in the younger players in the team like Dante Sealy, Wayne Frederick, and Isaiah Leacock saying, "I believe all these younger guys have something to prove and I am just here to give what I can, and it's just good to be back and hopefully on the day I can do what I can do."
Garcia also had some words for the local supporters saying, "I would like to get that energy as the 12th man. Hopefully, we could start the game and give them a show, but we will need that support and that drive, and I want to hear noise. I don't want to be able to be hearing guys on the pitch and I hope that they come out and they give us that support on Friday."
He added, "I think Friday comes like the last game for us so we know that we need to win this game and winning this game will decide everything for us."
The former T&T captain said he expects a fair game from St Kitts & Nevis, but noted he is more focused on his own team.
"We have to go and dictate the game and get our win and whatever St Kitts & Nevis has in store we have to deal with it and focus on ourselves and get the victory.
Toronto FC winger Tyrese Spicer, the top draft pick in the US Major League Soccer (MLS) Super Draft a year ago, just ahead of Frederick, is also thrilled to be back for the upcoming matches.
He said, "I'm very excited to be back in T&T and excited to play in front of the fans and I think this is a big steppingstone for myself and the team as the World Cup is our big goal and we need to go out there and show our best and perform."
Spicer was also to have fellow MLS players Dante Sealy of CF Montreal and Colorado Rapids Wayne Frederick II in the team and promised the fans that they will be excited by the young duo.
A key player against Cuba in the last international fixtures in the Concacaf Gold Cup preliminary round, Spicer said he just wants to be able to contribute to the team in a positive way. The T&T team will hold their final training today from 7.30 pm at the match venue ahead of tomorrow's crucial encounter.
