Guyana fell behind in their first international clash with T&T on Friday night at the Pit ‘N’ Pub Sports Bar in Curepe. In a race to 11 games, the Guyanese ended the night winning just one of the six games contested.
The Pool Jaguars, as they are commonly known, started well when Sean DeSouza came back from a 2-4 deficit to win 5-2 against Aaron Rahgoonanan. Vishaal Singh evened things up for T&T in game two, beating Kamil Hussain 5-4 in another close game. Sham Jagerssar had an easier time and never looked in trouble against Ryan Rambalak, winning 5-2, to give the hosts their first lead of the night.
Game four was the doubles encounter and the T&T pair of Clint Bachan and Jason James took on Anthony Xavier and DeSouza, a strong pairing for the Jaguars. Unfortunately for them, Bachan and James, thanks to a foul shot by Xavier in the deciding game, gifted the T&T duo a ball in hand and an easy black sealed that game 5-4.
Ravi Goorah, runner-up in the recent 10 ball tournament on Wednesday, wasted little time with Abdool Salim winning 5-1 and Adrian "Glasses" Bajnath prevailed 5-2 over Steven Persaud.
Yet to play for T&T are Lyndon Ramkissoon, Zubir Sankar, Damien Bisnath and Menon Herera.
The match was scheduled to continue yesterday evening at Golden Arches II in Curepe.
Guyana was also in action on Saturday against a national youth team at Pit 'N' Pub and was outplayed by the T&T "young guns". This match was a race to nine with individual games a best-of-three format. The Guyanese managed just two wins courtesy of Ryan Rambalak and Sean De Souza. Rambalack won the night’s opener 2-1 against T&T captain Ravy Joseph and De Souza won his encounter with Keris Carew 2-0.
For T&T, Josiah Moreno was a 2-0 winner over Ryan Baksh, Carew won his early game 2-1 against Persaud, Adrian Mangaroo defeated Kamil Hussain 2-1, Steven Mungalsingh got the better of Abdool Salim 2-1, Nicholas Ramlaka had a 2-0 win over Anthony Xavier, the doubles pair of Stefan Mohammed and Sean Hallett were 2-0 winners over De Souza and Dave "Scotty" Hussain, Ceon Archer, fresh from winning an Open nine-ball tournament at Golden Arches II earlier in the day, beat Ronald "Skipper" Bridgemohan 2-1, Mangaroo made it two in two when he beat Xavier 2-0, Hallett downed Rambalak 2-0 and Moreno completed the match with a 2-0 win over Hussain (Kamil).
The Guyana team was expected to leave for Tobago on Monday, where they will contest a series of games against the best players on the sister isle.
