Jones misfires in USA’s victory over Canada

THE HAGUE, Nether­lands – Bar­ba­di­an Aaron Jones failed to de­liv­er with the bat, but USA de­feat­ed Cana­da, led by fel­low Ba­jan Nicholas Kir­ton, by 14 runs in their tri-se­ries match, on Tues­day.

Jones scored just 15 runs from 27 balls as USA racked up 304-4 from 50 overs in their ICC Crick­et World Cup League 2 con­test, which al­so in­cludes the Nether­lands.

Aaron Jones on­ly scored 17, but USA still de­feat­ed Cana­da by 14 runs.

In their run chase, the left-hand­ed Kir­ton scored 14, as Cana­da were lim­it­ed to 290-9 from their overs.

USA were led by cap­tain Mo­nank Pa­tel, who smashed an un­beat­en 121 from 95 balls, in­clu­sive of sev­en fours and five six­es, to help get his team up to a com­pet­i­tive to­tal.

Af­ter open­ers Steven Tay­lor (27) and Smith Pa­tel (63), gave the USA a sol­id 75-run open­ing part­ner­ship, Pa­tel had a cru­cial, un­bro­ken 143 runs for the fifth wick­et with Shayan Ja­hangir, who scored 57 not out, af­ter the USA slipped to 166-4 in the 34th over.

Cana­da got off to a promis­ing start with open­ers Aaron John­son, who scored 55 from 41 balls and Aa­ditya Varadara­jan (5), putting on 51 in eight overs.

How­ev­er, they lost wick­ets at reg­u­lar in­ter­vals and were stut­ter­ing at 140-7 be­fore late fire­works from Harsh Thak­er (77) and Dilon Heyliger (56) got them up to their even­tu­al to­tal.
