THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Barbadian Aaron Jones failed to deliver with the bat, but USA defeated Canada, led by fellow Bajan Nicholas Kirton, by 14 runs in their tri-series match, on Tuesday.
Jones scored just 15 runs from 27 balls as USA racked up 304-4 from 50 overs in their ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 contest, which also includes the Netherlands.
Aaron Jones only scored 17, but USA still defeated Canada by 14 runs.
In their run chase, the left-handed Kirton scored 14, as Canada were limited to 290-9 from their overs.
USA were led by captain Monank Patel, who smashed an unbeaten 121 from 95 balls, inclusive of seven fours and five sixes, to help get his team up to a competitive total.
After openers Steven Taylor (27) and Smith Patel (63), gave the USA a solid 75-run opening partnership, Patel had a crucial, unbroken 143 runs for the fifth wicket with Shayan Jahangir, who scored 57 not out, after the USA slipped to 166-4 in the 34th over.
Canada got off to a promising start with openers Aaron Johnson, who scored 55 from 41 balls and Aaditya Varadarajan (5), putting on 51 in eight overs.
However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and were stuttering at 140-7 before late fireworks from Harsh Thaker (77) and Dilon Heyliger (56) got them up to their eventual total.
