Leonardo Julien’s unbeaten 64 ensured that Dream XI Trinidad T10 Blast leaders Samp Army Cocrico Cavaliers maintained their position at the pinnacle of the table via a six-wicket win over Scarlet Ibis Scorchers at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando on Wednesday.

The Scorchers batted first and scored and started promisingly with a 44-run partnership between Daniel Williams and Cephas Cooper. They rolled the score in three and a half overs and were separated when Cooper was caught for 14.

The Scorchers, who got their second win of the tournament the day before, against Leatherback Strikers to climb from the cellar position, lost Williams for 36 with the score on 52.

Only Dexter Sween, who made 14 and Keron Rampersad, who made 17, got into double figures as the Scorchers struggled to put partnerships together as they struggled to 105 for nine from their allotment of ten overs.

Jesse Bootan and Justin Joseph took two wickets each to retard the flow of runs and keep the target manageable.

Going after a target that should pose too many issues, the Cavaliers lost Bootan, who scored 91 not out the day before, for a golden duck, first ball of the innings, as Liam Mamchan struck. They lost Kjorn Ottley in the next over.

Then an 85-run partnership between Kyle Ramdoo and Julien took the match away from the Scorchers. Julien hit five fours and six sixes in 22 balls for his unbeaten 64 while Ramdoo was reduced to being a spectator with 17 from 14 balls.

Not even the quick wickets of Ramdoo and Saiba Batoosingh could prevent the Cavaliers from winning as they held on to the top spot of the standings for one more day.

In the late match, Kamil Pooran (79) and Teshawn Castro (70) punished the Chicago Steelpan Players to score 174 for three in ten overs.

The former table leaders came close as Sidel Diaz (41) and Silus Cooper (52) got to 161 /5 to slip third in the standings as the teams swapped places.
