Madrid Re­load, third-place fin­ish­er in the league phase of the Ty­ro Ty­ro Sports Club Over-45 sev­en-a-side hock­ey-size foot­ball league, will take on Maitagual M-Pire/Or­gans (sixth) in quar­ter­fi­nal two, as both teams try to book a spot in the semi­fi­nals of the “Big 8” com­pe­ti­tion.

The ac­tion will un­fold from 8 pm at Gab­ba Grounds in Low­er San­ta Cruz, fol­low­ing the oth­er quar­ter­fi­nal match-up be­tween One is One and San Juan San Juan at 7 pm.

The four teams ad­vanced to the quar­ter­fi­nals af­ter wins in the Big Ten knock­out com­pe­ti­tion which in­volved teams plac­ing third to tenth on the league com­pe­ti­tion

Old Timers and Tor­na­does sealed their spots in the semi­fi­nals in the “Big 8” com­pe­ti­tion af­ter fin­ish­ing first and sec­ond, re­spec­tive­ly, in the league phase, au­to­mat­i­cal­ly qual­i­fy­ing them for the semi­fi­nals. Old Timers topped the 12-team round-robin pre­lim­i­nary round with 28 points from nine wins, a draw and loss, nar­row­ly ahead of Tor­na­does who were the leader in the ear­ly part of the league but dropped two match­es while pro­duc­ing nine wins for 27 points.

Tor­na­does, how­ev­er, had its strik­er Hec­tor Sam fin­ish­ing with the most goals, 18, among the un­der-45 aged play­ers while Robert Den­nis of Syax topped the over-45s with eight, fol­lowed by Ed­mund Homer of Maitagual M-Pire/Or­gans and Liv­er­pool’s Ains­ley Wal­lace each with six.

Old Timers, who picked up the first-round win­ner prize of $500 plus a tro­phy, and Tor­na­does now await the win­ners of the re­spec­tive quar­ter­fi­nals.

En route to the quar­ter­fi­nals, Madrid Re­load oust­ed Old Road Utd, 4-0, in the knock­out phase while fel­low qual­i­fi­er One is One, led by a dou­ble from for­mer na­tion­al foot­baller Mar­vin Faustin, elim­i­nat­ed Cen­tral Old Boys, 5-1, in the open­ing match on Sat­ur­day.

The fol­low­ing day, Madrid Re­load’s op­po­nent Maitagual M-Pire/Or­gans pro­gressed af­ter edg­ing Fire 45, 1-0, thanks to the win­ner from Homer.

Lat­er, Bernard Mc­Call scored a brace to get San Juan San Juan past Syax 2-1 and in­to the quar­ter­fi­nal round.

The win­ner of the “Big 8” will take home $3,500 with a tro­phy plus a repli­ca while the next three places will be pre­sent­ed a tro­phy with sec­ond place get­ting $1,500, third $500 and fourth $400.
