VINODE MAMCHAN
Naparima College shot to the top of the standings in the PowerGen Secondary Schools cricket league Premiership division, when they defeated Barrackpore West by six wickets in their second round encounter in Barrackpore yesterday.
Naps, which took care of newcomers St. Benedicts College last week, continued their winning ways and restricted Barrackpore to 180 all out thanks in the main to spinner Justin Gangoo 3/12 and Ryan Bandoo 2/45. Skipper Gangoo had a wonderful game and returned to score an unbeaten 59 batting at number three to take his school home at 181/4. In Port-of-Spain, Fatima College opened their account after the team's first round game against Signal Hill was abandoned last week. Miguel Paty boys batted first and scored a healthy 267 for eight with Andel Nicholas making 94 to lead the way. Carapichaima in reply could muster only 102 as Jacobs Young-Kasim 3/47 and Joshua Wilson 3/25 proved a handful.
The other two Premiership games were not played. Hillview's clash against Benedicts will be played today due to an unprepared ground and Signal Hill could not get airline tickets to travel to Trinidad for their game against Presentation College, Chaguanas.
In the championships, Manzanilla continues to catch the eye, as they hammered QRC by 217 runs. Alex Ali who scored 87 last week scored 129 to lead his school to 310/9 and Christoph Lewis nabbed 3/10 to bowl out QRC for 93.
