EAST LONDON – Injuries have forced selectors to call up fast-bowling all-rounder Wayne Parnell and left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi to the South Africa squad for the One-Day International series against West Indies starting in South Africa on Thursday.

All-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who featured in the recent two-Test series, has been ruled out of the three-match series with a grade one left side strain while left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon during last week’s second Test in Johannesburg.

Subsequent scans showed significant damage, leaving Maharaj in danger of being out for up to six months.

Parnell, a 33-year-old left-armer, has played 72 ODIs, taking 98 wickets and scoring a single fifty. His last outing was against England last month.
