Linda Partap-Boodhan of Warrenville United and Riad Abasali of Survivors emerged as champions of the women and men veterans Division when the Fazal Karim-sponsored third annual Chaguanas East Invitational Table Tennis Tournament at Warrenville United Table Tennis Club, Munroe Road, Chaguanas last weekend.
Partap-Boodhan a former national women's team made light work of Mala Partap 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 and Arlene Joseph of Enterprise 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 to claim the round-robin crown, 2-0.
Joseph secured the second spot with a straight forward win over Partap 11-6, 11-1, 11-6.
Abasali secured the men's veterans crown by beating Dave Ramoutar 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 in their decider.
Earlier on in the main draw, Abasali brushed aside Donald Humphrey 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 in the last-eight before beating Neville Cabie 12-10, 11-5, 11-7 in the semifinals while Ramoutar overcame Ronnie Guevera 11-3, 11-5, 11-7 and Rafael Mohammed 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 en route to the championship match.
Mohammed defeated Satesh Jodhan 13-11, 11-8, 2-11, 11-9 and Cabie dumped Jerry Joseph 6-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 in the two other quarterfinals.
Sarah Mohammed lifted the Under-21 women's competition, beating Rayanna Boodhan 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 for the title.
Mohammed was an 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 winner over Lyllanna Boodhan 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 and Boodhan (R), was on a bye.
And in the Under-21 men's competition, Reeza Ali won outright when he outplayed Vasesh Ramphalie 11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-3.
Earlier on Ali was handed a round-of-eight bye before he booted Al Ameen Ali 12-10, 11-3, 11-7 in the semifinals while Ramphalie beat Akeem Beharry 11-9, 8-11, 3-11, 11-5, 11-9 and Kishan Ramoutar 5-11, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-6.
Ramoutar overcame Steffon Ramlakhan 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 and Al Ameen Ali battled past Kevin Ramrattan 11-6, 11-9, 12-10 in the last-eight draw.
In the Girls Under-16 competition, Rayanna Boodhan lived up to expectations by beating Ashleia Mohammed 11-2, 11-9, 11-9 in the title match.
Boodhan reached the final courtesy an 11-9, 11-7 win over her younger sibling, Lyllanna Boodhan while Mohammed steamrolled Leah Maharaj 11-8, 11-4.
Vasesh Ramphalie took the boys Under-16 equivalent by crushing Akeem Beharry 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.
Ramphalie advanced to the final, by beating Esaa Mohammed 12-10, 8-11, 13-11 and Sameer Ali 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 while Beharry, spanked Raees Elahie 11-1, 11-5, and Justin Bachan 12-10, 11-4.
Ali ousted Joshua Branche in the last-eight 11-8, 11-3, and Bachan Brent Heeraman, 11-5, 11-3.
Lyllanna Boodhan was crowned champion in the Under-13 Girls Division, after beating Ashleia Mohammed 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 5-11, 11-7 in a tense final.
Boodhan reached the final thanks to her 11-7, 11-7 dismissal of Aalia Ali, and Mohammed humbled Yzabelle Morris 11-8, 11-5.
Earlier in the two quarterfinals, Morris slammed Joanna Dignos 11-0, 11-2 and Ali trounced Pretty Singh 11-0, 11-3.
In the Under-13 Boys, Essa Mohammed outlasted Sameer Ali 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6 for the title.
This after Mohammed beat Abdullah Hosein 11-2, 11-4 and Ali ousted Raees Elahie 11-5, 11-1 in the final-four.
In the two quarterfinals, Elahie overcame Michael sing 11-8, 11-7 and Hosein stopped Nirad Deopersad 11-2, 11-5.
