Presentation College San Fernando (Pres Sando) can finally claim the Secondary Schools Cricket League’s (SSCL) Premier Division with a win over St Benedict’s College at home in Union Hall, San Fernando, Tuesday.

However, they will be wary of Presentation College Chaguanas (Pres Chag), who can snatch the title away, if they lose to St Benedict’s and their Chaguanas brothers win against Naparima College, who was beaten by Hillview College, last week.

‘Pres Sando’ is unbeaten his year, behind the strength of openers Riyaad Mohammed and Khaleem Mohammed. The two batsmen have been prolific this season. Riyaad has already notched up 430 runs from seven matches, averaging 86, with one century and four fifties. He scored 92 in last week’s win over Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College. Khaleem has also added 353 runs, averaging 58.8 with one hundred and one fifty.

Presentation will start as the favourite, but it will have to guard against complacency especially as St Benedict’s has only won two matches this season. A rain-affected match did not allow them to get a result against Shiva Boys’ Hindu College.

‘Pres Chag’ has a much tougher task in Naparima College. Although ‘Naps’ had a decent start to the season and was even in the running up to two weeks ago, back-to-back losses against Pres Sado and Hillview College have dented their confidence.

‘Pres Chag’ will be full of confidence having only lost to ‘Pres Sando’ this season.

Naparima will find it difficult without star batter Kyle Ramdoo (who has been banned due to ineligibility) to face a potent attack led by the fiery Alexander Chase. Knowing what will be at stake, Chase and company will be even more difficult to face at Lewis Street, San Fernando.

All matches bowl off at 10 am.
