Automobile sports fans are in for another treat when round two of the Wallerfield Cup Finals (WCF) begins at 10 am Saturday (May 31) and continues Sunday (June 1) at the iconic Frankie Boodram International Raceway in Wallerfield.

Round one, which was contested on April 26 and 27 drew some 5,000 spectators and this weekend’s event could challenge that figure according to T&T Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) president Ashton Eligon.

He said, “This event continues to surpass expectations — not just in the size of the crowds, but in the standard of motorsport competition being delivered. We are proud to see T&T step confidently onto the regional motorsport stage with events reflecting professionalism and passion.”

The WCF is the newest incarnation of T&T’s drag racing championship series, which will be used to qualify drivers for the prestigious Caribbean Championship Series.

Round two will see the return of many of the previous round’s crowd favourites, such as Boostlab’s all-wheel-drive Honda which made a blistering 8.19-second run. Another crowd pleaser was the popular ‘Fishvan’ which broke the coveted 7-second barrier.

Promoter Rezan Ogeer said, “We knew the appetite for motorsport was there, but round one proved it without a doubt. Round two will take it even further — more speed, more rivalry, and a fully immersive experience for fans. From the moment the gates open, you’ll feel the difference.”

FIA regional representative Selwyn Bunny Persad commended the evolution of the event.

“The Wallerfield Cup Finals have quickly become one of the most anticipated motorsport events in the Caribbean,” he said. “The commitment to safety, structure, and sporting excellence is clear, and the FIA is proud to support this kind of championship in the region.”

Adding to the weekend’s excitement is the return of the GamerX Truck, offering an interactive, air-conditioned gaming zone for children under 12. Fans can also look forward to giveaways and activations from several event sponsors, creating a true festival of speed and family entertainment.
