T&T Soca Warriors will be going all out to pick up full points against the Bahamas when both teams meet in their second 2022/2023 Concacaf Nations League (CNL) B Group C match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 8 pm on Monday.
The meeting between both teams will be only the second-ever after they battled to a 0-0 draw in the first round of the Qatar 2022 Concacaf World Cup qualifier in Nassau on June 5 last year during the ill-fated tenure of Englishman Terry Fenwick, which saw the team failing to advance from their five-team round-robin group which was topped by St Kitts and Nevis.
This clash also pits two teams on opposing trajectories, as T&T looks to overturn their relegation from League A and put an end to their 0-2-3 CNL record, while recently promoted Bahamas hope to extend their five-match unbeaten streak in CNL matches.
After only one match day, the Soca Warriors find themselves in a must-win situation in the four-team pool after losing their opener on Friday night to Nicaragua 2-1 at the National Football Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua, while the Bahamas edged St Vincent and the Grenadines, 1-0.
For tonight’s match, the Soca Warriors will welcome back head coach Angus Eve, as well as USA-duo Noah Powder and Neveal Hackshaw and locally-based goalkeeper Jabari St Hillaire of Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, who all missed the away match due to different reasons.
However, Eve is expected to be forced into one change to his team, with Turkish-based defender Sheldon Bateau being forced off with a late injury against the Nicaraguans, making his status for tonight and the upcoming two matches St Vincent and the Grenadines, questionable.
Joevin Jones, Marcus Joseph, Tristan Hodge and Mekeil Williams have been replaced by Jameel Neptune, Reon Moore, Radanfah Abu Bakr and Nicholas Dillon in Monday’s clash.
In Eve’s absence, fellow former national captain and midfielder Reynold Carrington led the team and looking ahead to the match against Bahamas Carrington noted that there was no time for much preparation or pondering on the loss against Nicaragua.
Team captain and goalkeeper Marvin Phillip admitted that a short time between matches will prove to be a bit of a challenge with fixtures against St Vincent and the Grenadines to come as well on June 10 and 13 in Arnos Vales and Mucurapo, respectively.
