KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Kishane Thompson and Tina Clayton sped to victories in the men and women’s 100 metres respectively at the JAAA/Puma National Senior Championships here on Friday.
Thompson, the defending men’s champion, stormed to victory in a blistering personal best time of 9.75 seconds, bettering his 9.77 seconds which he set at last year’s championships.
Oblique Seville, who battled with a tight hamstring during his warmup, came second in 9.83 seconds, with Ackeem Blake taking bronze in 9.88 seconds, mirroring the top three finishes at the 2024 National Championships.
Ryiem Forde finished fourth in 9.98 seconds.
Meanwhile, Clayton captured her first national title in a highly competitive field that included Sherica Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce.
The 21-year-old produced a personal best time of 10.81 seconds to claim gold, with Jackson second in 10.88 seconds and Fraser-Pryce (10.91) copping third place.
Tina’s twin sister Tia, who ran a blazing 10.86 seconds in the semifinals and was one of the pre-race favourites, did not finish after pulling up in the final.
