Walcott cops silver at FBK Games

For­mer Olympic javelin cham­pi­on Keshorn Wal­cott copped sil­ver in the event at the FBK Games on Sun­day at the Fan­ny Blankers-Koen Sta­di­um in Hen­ge­lo, Hol­land.

Wal­cott threw a sea­son's best (sb) 83.56 me­tres to place sec­ond be­hind Ger­man Ju­lian We­ber with 87.14m and ahead of Fin­land's Oliv­er He­lander with a sea­son-best 80.50m at the World Ath­let­ics Con­ti­nen­tal Tour Gold meet.

Wal­cott, who has a per­son­al best of 90.16m, could have placed sec­ond with his first and third ef­forts, toss­ing the spear 83.35m and 81.52m, re­spec­tive­ly. The T&T javelin throw­er sat out the fourth and fifth rounds be­fore re­tir­ing in the sixth and fi­nal round.

We­ber, who en­tered the meet with the best throw this sea­son with a dis­tance of 88.37m he threw last week­end on home soil in Rehlin­gen, fur­thest throw came in the sixth round. This af­ter tak­ing the lead in the sec­ond with an 86.78m ef­fort.

Fill­ing the re­main­ing spots were Las­si Ete­lat­a­lo of Fin­land in fourth with a sea­son-best 79.93m, Tim­o­thy Her­man of Bel­gium, who en­tered with a per­son­al best of 87.35m last month in Nairo­bi, fifth with 78.14, sixth was Pa­triks Gailum (Latvia) with 78.09 while Por­tuguese Le­an­dro Ramos (76.21) and Ger­many's Jo­hannes Vet­ter (72.85-sb), were sev­enth and eight, re­spec­tive­ly.

T&T sprint­er Michelle-Lee Ahye al­so made an ap­pear­ance at the two-day meet in the women's 100 me­tres and placed eighth.

Ahye, run­ning in lane sev­en, clocked a sea­son's best 11.35 sec­onds in the dash, which fea­tured nine run­ners.

Daryll Nei­ta of Great Britain sped to vic­to­ry in 11.05, with Egypt's Bas­sant Hemi­da in sec­ond with 11.16 and Brazil­ian Vi­to­ria Cristi­na Rosa third with 11.18 (sb).

The re­main­ing re­sults were Amer­i­can Cam­brea Stur­gis was fourth with 11.20 (sb), N'Ke­ta See­do of the Nether­lands was fifth with 11.22 (sb), Ivory Coast's Mabound­ou Kone was sixth with 11.30, Bel­gium's Del­phine Nkansa was sev­enth with 11.32 and USA's Teah­na Daniels was ninth with 11.57.
