T&T men’s beach vol­ley­ball pair Daneil Williams and Fa­bi­en Whit­field end­ed the first day of the third leg of the 2023 North, Cen­tral Amer­i­can, and Caribbean Con­fed­er­a­tion (NORCE­CA) Beach Vol­ley­ball Tour, the Se­cu­ri­ty Cen­tre Beach Vol­ley­ball Tour­na­ment host­ed by the Cay­man Is­lands Vol­ley­ball Fed­er­a­tion with a 2-0 win-loss record in their five-team Pool B qual­i­fiers on Fri­day.

Play­ing at the sun-soaked Sev­en Miles Pub­lic Beach, Grand Cay­man, the 'To­co Boys" as Williams and Whit­field are known did not have it easy though as they first need­ed the max­i­mum three sets to get the bet­ter of Haitians Olan­do Joseph and Ir­vens Ben­jamin, 19-21,21-7, 15-3, in 40 min­utes be­fore they de­feat­ed St Kitts/Nevis pair St Clair Hodge and Shawn Seabrokes, 21-13, 21-14.

In the oth­er match­es in Pool B, group favourites, Mex­i­cans Juan Vir­gen and Miguel Sara­bia, the run­ner-up in the first leg and peren­ni­al ti­tle con­tenders de­feat­ed An­guil­lans Da’Qwan Fred­er­icks and Aiden Haz­zard (21-10, 21-7) and Joseph and Ben­jamin (21-6, 21-10), to al­so end the day with a per­fect 2-0 record and a share of top spot with the T&T pair ahead of their fi­nal round clash Sat­ur­day in what is ex­pect­ed to be the pool de­cider for first and sec­ond places.

In the two oth­er match­es played in Pool B, Hodge and Seabrokes beat Haz­zard, and Fred­er­icks 21-3, 21-8, while Joseph and Ben­jamin al­so swept past Haz­zard and Fred­er­icks 21-10, 21-8 for their first win in three match­es on the day.

The T&T duo are seek­ing an im­prove­ment and a pos­si­ble podi­um fin­ish on their sev­enth-placed fin­ish from the sec­ond leg in Va­radero, Cu­ba af­ter plac­ing 13th of 17 teams in the open­ing leg in Aguas­calientes, Mex­i­co.
