BASSETERRE, St Kitts –On the back of an all-round effort from Jannillea Glasgow, the West Indies women, minus captain Hayley Matthews and vice-captain Shemaine Campbelle, brushed aside Bangladesh by five wickets in the third and final T20I here at Warner Park in St. Kitts on Friday.
The victory ensured that the regional women secured the series 3-0 after the home side got the 105 runs needed for the loss of five wickets in 18.3 overs.
With regular captain Hayley Matthews unwell and not in the playing eleven and Shemaine Campbell returning to her homeland Guyana for personal reasons, stand-in captain Karishma Ramharrack decided to field after winning the toss.
The home side had to wait until the fourth over to get a breakthrough, as seamer Glasgow had opener Murshida Khatun caught for 13 with 24 runs on the board.
Glasgow was at it again in the sixth over, this time she breached the defence of the other Bangladeshi opener Dilara Akter for 21.
When off-spinner Ashmini Munisar had Sharmin Akter caught by Nerissa Crafton for 6 at 48 for three in the seventh over, the visitors found it difficult from there on in to gain any meaningful momentum as wickets tumbled at regular intervals.
It took a brisk 33 from 43 balls from captain Nigar Sultana Joty to spruce up the visitor’s score as they inched over the 100-run mark in the final over of the innings.
Glasgow would seal an impressive evening with the ball after she claimed her third wicket to finish with three for 15 from her four overs.
In reply, the host made the chase look a lot harder than it was as they stuttered to 26 for two in the sixth over. As she did with the ball, Glasgow came up trumps with the bat, as she hit 25 from 28 balls with two fours, to set the home side back on track in the run chase.
When the hard-hitting Deandra Dottin fell for just 10 runs, and Glasgow went soon after, the West Indies were at that stage 56-4 in the 11th over, however, Shabika Gajnabi with 27 not out from 25 balls and Zaida James with 14 not out from 22 balls, ensured the home side would get over the line at 105-5, following their 44 run sixth wicket stand.
