Tariq Woods of Evolution Cycling Academy pulled off a stunning win in the Elite Men’s 118km ride when the T&T Cycling Federation Road Challenge Series No 2 from the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva to Point Fortin on Sunday.

For the Elite and Juniors, the course covered a distance of 118km while for the Juveniles and Masters, it was 28km less (90km).

The 22-year-old Woods won ahead of Heatwave duo Josias Velasquez and Phillip Clarke, with fellow national cyclist and Pan American Games Scratch Race bronze medal winner Akil Campbell in a disappointing fifth.

The race started with a rolling start from the Ato Boldon Stadium main gate and then moved east towards the Couva flyover, then headed south towards Ghandi Village roundabout, Debe.

From there, the riders took the roundabout to head back north and came off left, to head to Golconda, then towards Duncan Village, bearing right to exit on the Southern Main Road heading to Gulf City, La Romain, Oropouche to the new highway (the Archibald de Leon Highway) and headed to Point Fortin to the first roundabout.

The cyclist then came around the roundabout, headed back east to Vance River, to the new highway (the Archibald de Leon Highway) to Oropouche, and to Gulf City, where the Juveniles and Masters finished.

The Juniors and Elite continued to Golconda and exited left on the highway before they headed north to Couva, turning off to the left before the Couva flyover.

The race then took a right turn on the roundabout onto Rivulet Road, the second exit (by the gas station), to finish on the straight close to the bus shed.
