Chaguanas West candidate of the People's National Movement Avinash Singh said on Wednesday he would play deaf to all the critics who were seeking to discourage him from contesting the July 29 by-election. He said that at the first public meeting of the party at New Settlement Recreation Ground, Caroni Savannah Road.Singh said that he would turn a deaf ear to those critics and focus on winning the by-election. He said he had the support of the oldest and most stable party in the country.
Singh spoke of plans to develop agriculture and other projects to develop the community. He said he wanted to "ignite the passion of patriotism" in the country.He said the PNM was the best party to advance Chaguanas West. Chairman of the meeting was Opposition Senator Terrance Deyalsingh.He said the new Independent Liberal Party (ILP) was a zaboca. He said it was green on the outside and yellow on the inside. The PNM was no zaboca party, he added.
