Instead of mourning the deaths of her two sons, Joanne Rowley, better known as Tigress in the calypso arena, will be addressing the ills of this country during her performance at Calypso Fiesta, at Skinner Park in San Fernando on Saturday.
Rowley said her song entitled Rowley to Rowley is an address to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
In an interview on Thursday at the draw for positions at the semi-finals of the National Calypso Monarch, at NAPA in Port-of-Spain, Rowley said her sons would not like her to stay home and mourn their deaths.
Rowley said one of her son's died of an asthma attack in 2015 while another died of a brain aneurysm in 2016.
"I lost my son in December and my music is my outlet and therapy," she said.
Reigning Soca Monarch Aaron St Louis, better known as the Voice, said that his moving into calypso arena was about gaining experience.
"It's about experience and it is different vibe to learn new things and the experience," he said.
St Louis said it would be his first year singing calypso which was not that different.
"It's not branching off because calypso is the parent of soca and the music I do is calypso. It is something current."
He said his song titled Year for Love was because he believed it was a year for love.
"I think it is a year for love and not crime and violence," he said.
Steve Pascal, public relations officer of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians' Organisation, said the prize money for the competition was yet to be determined but it would be based on the subvention given from the National Carnival Commission.
