Head of the TTPS Child Protection Unit, acting Supt Michelle Rowley-Powder, is again calling on parents to properly supervise their children and discourage criminal behaviour.
Responding to Guardian Media’s questions through the TTPS Corporate Communications Unit yesterday, Rowley-Powder referred to an incident where a schoolboy was caught on video stealing money from the cash box of a D’Abadie doubles vendor earlier this week.
According to reports, the doubles vendor contacted the primary school and reported the incident, which led to the boy’s parents being called in.
The boy was then made to return the money and apologise to the vendor.
Rowley-Powder said she was liaising with officers of the Northern Division North to “monitor” the situation but noted that proper supervision remained an issue.
“Section 4 of the Children’s Act speaks about the responsibility of adults towards care of a child and it encompasses the issue of child neglect. Parents have a responsibility to monitor the movements their children,” she said.
