Customers will have to wait a little longer for reduced prices on Nutrimix flour products, as several major supermarkets have not yet adjusted prices for the products on their shelves.
The company announced the price cuts a week ago. However, the Purchasing Manager at Price Club Supermarket, Kim Maharaj, said there was a reason why customers are not yet seeing the lower prices. “Nutrimix doesn’t give a rebate on the stock that we have. The only time the price will be reflected on the shelf is when we buy new stock at the lower price, and then we can pass it on to the customer,” she explained.
Maharaj said although Nutrimix announced that the price adjustment would take immediate effect, the time frame could vary for prices to be adjusted on the shelves of major supermarkets. “You have to also remember the supermarket would have stock in store in their back store and on the shelf,” she said.
The reduction in flour prices is the result of several global variables, including reduced wheat prices and shipping costs. President of the Supermarket Association of T&T Rajiv Diptee said he was optimistic about further adjustments in the cost of imported food products.
He said, “We would like to see some prices coming down, but we are not yet seeing that translating on the international market in terms of major suppliers, and that is something we are having conversations on with other manufacturers and importers to see what could be done.” Chairman of the National Flour Mills Limited Nigel Romano said while the state-owned company makes price adjustments due to shifting global patterns and internal operations, it can suggest retail prices for the products.
