George “Bunny” Dieffenthaller

Masman George “Bunny” Dieffenthaller has died. Condolences were being offered to the Dieffenthallers yesterday after the passing of the family's patriarch, a former accountant and veteran ole mas player ,on New Year's Day.

He was the husband of classical singer Deanna Dieffenthaller and father of soca star Kees Dieffenthaller and his brothers Jon and Hans who formed the popular Kes the Band. He was also the father of film producer and actress Danielle Dieffenthaller, Renee and Heidi.

A 2012 Caribbean Beat article stated that Dieffenthaller was a true lover of the mas, which lead to his children growing up around music and having an appreciation of culture. It stated that Kees and his brothers formed a garage band with equipment fashioned out of milk tins and buckets and when their father recognised their enthusiasm, he bought them a drum kit and built a stage.

Actor Michael Cherrie sent condolences to the family via Facebook yesterday, saying that he was “remembering George 'Bunny' Dieffenthaller. RIP...great friend, great man, great father of a great family...make new and wonderful vibrations in that new realm with the Lord, my friend...Godspeed Bunny...my deepest condolences to his children Renee, Danielle, Hans, Jon, Kees and Heidi, and all his family.”
