Former prime minister Dr Keith Rowley has seemingly taken a political jab at Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar following her speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar addressed the world at the event on Friday afternoon.
However, mere hours after her speech, Dr Rowley took to his Facebook page and posted a video with the caption, “When Trinidad and Tobago had leadership that it could be proud of.”
The video featured Dr Rowley speaking about an impasse between the United States, the European Union, and Venezuela, where there had been a demand for regime change in the South American country.
At the time, as prime minister, Dr Rowley said he led the Caricom delegation to the UN to enforce the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
In her speech on Friday, Mrs Persad-Bissessar dismissed that notion, saying gangs had taken over and many people were already being killed, particularly in Trinidad and Tobago.
She reiterated the country’s support for the United States’ war on drugs and guns in the Caribbean, saying the region must fight fire with fire.
Dr Rowley could not be reached for comment yesterday.
