For­mer prime min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley has seem­ing­ly tak­en a po­lit­i­cal jab at Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar fol­low­ing her speech at the Unit­ed Na­tions Gen­er­al As­sem­bly.

Mrs Per­sad-Bisses­sar ad­dressed the world at the event on Fri­day af­ter­noon.

How­ev­er, mere hours af­ter her speech, Dr Row­ley took to his Face­book page and post­ed a video with the cap­tion, “When Trinidad and To­ba­go had lead­er­ship that it could be proud of.”

The video fea­tured Dr Row­ley speak­ing about an im­passe be­tween the Unit­ed States, the Eu­ro­pean Union, and Venezuela, where there had been a de­mand for regime change in the South Amer­i­can coun­try.

At the time, as prime min­is­ter, Dr Row­ley said he led the Cari­com del­e­ga­tion to the UN to en­force the Caribbean as a zone of peace.

In her speech on Fri­day, Mrs Per­sad-Bisses­sar dis­missed that no­tion, say­ing gangs had tak­en over and many peo­ple were al­ready be­ing killed, par­tic­u­lar­ly in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

She re­it­er­at­ed the coun­try’s sup­port for the Unit­ed States’ war on drugs and guns in the Caribbean, say­ing the re­gion must fight fire with fire.

Dr Row­ley could not be reached for com­ment yes­ter­day.
