The Trade Licence Unit (TLU) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced changes to its business operations, which involve continued observation of its Limited Visitor Policy, to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission to staff and clients.

In an official statement, the TLU reminds its clients and customers of the continuation of changes made to its business operations.

“The Limited Visitor Policy is in keeping with the national guidelines issued by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to safeguard the health and safety of the nation’s citizenry in respect of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” the TLU explains.

TLU customers and clients are reminded of the following…

1.     All approved Permits and Licences will be transmitted to clients via electronic mail. There will be no collection of licences at the TLU Office. Clients are asked to provide more than one, and up to three (3) notification email addresses, to which approved documents can be delivered. Clients are also encouraged to check their “junk mail” box as well, in the event that the notification was received there. Original copies of all documents will be sent from the TLU directly to the Offices of the Transport Commissioner and the Comptroller, Customs and Excise Division. Therefore, there will be no need for clients to visit the TLU to collect Original copies. Queries can be made via email at tlu@gov.tt; or via telephone at 623-2931 ext. 3017; 701-1443, 701-1440 or 701 1415.

2.     All supporting documents for Returning Nationals, as well as any requests for amendments, disposals or transfers, should be sent to the following email address, tlu@gov.tt; or dropped off at the TLU Office utilising the Drop Box Facility provided.

3.     All applications for personal use items under TT$20,000 should be emailed to tlu@gov.tt. Exceptions will be facilitated only for the elderly or persons with limited internet access.

4.     Clients who must visit the TLU, are required to make an appointment through email at tlu@gov.tt; or via telephone at 623-2931 ext. 3017; 701-1443, 701-1440 or 701 1415.

While these measures are intended to enable Business Continuity in the current circumstances, they are expected to remain in effect beyond the pandemic. The TLU stands ready to facilitate its mandate to provide its full range of services to the public, in line with the strategies set out by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

For clarification or further information on these changes, members of the public can contact the TLU via telephone at 623-2931 ext. 3017; 701-1443, 701-1440 or 701 1415.
