A substantial donation by the US Embassy will help the Blind Welfare Association in San Fernando in its quest to ensure its members embrace technology opportunities fully.
Ambassador Candace Bond revealed the US Embassy gave a US$20,000 grant to the Association to teach coding to visually impaired persons, to ensure they were not left behind in the digital divide.

The Association was one of several places she visited in San Fernando on Wednesday (May 31), but she became emotional and was moved to tears as she spoke about her "dear friend" Stevie Wonder, during her visit with the Association.
“He would just be so proud to be here with you,” an emotional Ambassador Bond said. “Stevie is someone who has been able to use digital tools in technology to have the most beautiful life. His life is so full. He does not let anything stop him."

The US Ambassador said she would ensure that Stevie visits Trinidad and Tobago.
Her other stops in the southern city included a meeting with San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello; luncheon with the San Fernando Greater Area Chamber of Commerce members; a visit with the La Romaine Migrant Group at St Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church; as well as visits to Naparima College and San Fernando Hill.
