Naresh "Venesh" Basant was gunned down in Korea Village in Carapichaima on Monday night while visiting a site to assess a prospective job.
Basant, of Charlieville, Chaguanas, was fatally shot while at Jagbir Street around 7.45 pm.
Police reported that residents heard several gunshots before Basant's body was found lying on the roadway next to his Honda Civic motorcar.
Details are still sketchy but Guardian Media understands that Basant, who is a professional and certified welder, was called out to the area to check out a prospective welding job.
Police investigators questioned residents for hours after the attack in an attempt to ascertain what happened.
Basant's relatives said they are shocked and "confused" about the incident. They said he was known as a very hard worker and dearly loved his one and only son and made it his duty to see that his son was happy and well taken care of.
"Venesh was his home name and everyone called him by that...he was a very quiet guy, but when with his family he loved to give jokes and smile at everything. He was no limer but frequented a bar near you his home on weekends where he would only lime with family and close friends," a relative who did not want to be named said.
"We are left now with a deep void and many unanswered questions. We are in disbelief but whoever did this, I want them to know that they took away a good father from an only child...they took away a good man who worked hard and honest for his living. God will give us justice."
Basant’s autopsy will be performed on Tuesday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
